Autograph letter signed from Robert Cecil, earl of Salisbury, to the lord deputy of Ireland, Charles Blount, Lord Mountjoy [manuscript], 1601 October 11.

About Irish affairs. Written from "the court." Informs Mountjoy that the reinforcements are being sent to him and then asks in a lengthy postscript that he confer a colonelcy on the brother of the earl of Northumberland [Sir Richard Percy], cryptically referring to Mountjoy's future wife, Penelope Rich, and to Sir Walter Raleigh, and adding that the earl "is one whom I would not discontent."
